Does Scalp Massage Promote Hair Growth

Many people experience hair loss, whether they be female or male, old or young. Scalp massage techniques may help to stimulate blood flow to the hair which in turn can help with hair loss to some degree. Although a scalp massage alone will not stop hair loss completely or regrow hair, massaging your scalp daily may be a good thing to do in addition to also using hair loss treatment products.

How to do a scalp massage

You can massage your scalp by yourself, or you can have someone else do it for you whether it be a friend or a masseuse.

If you choose to do it yourself it will take around 10-15 minutes of massage using your hands. You need to realise though that while a scalp massage can increase blood flow to the scalp, it will not cure your hair loss.

Some people recommend using plant-based oils when performing a scalp massage for best results. Such oils include almond oil, sesame, or lavender. If you do decide to use these you will need to dilute the essentials oils by mixing a couple of drops with a carrier oil like olive oil, peanut oil, sesame or almond oil. Please note though that you should not use any essential oil prior to diluting it.

You may also heat the oil slightly to introduce more circulation and relaxation during the massage. To perform the massage simply apply the oil to your fingers and begin massaging your scalp in a circular motion, beginning with your forehead and moving to your temples and neck.

The whole process should take a minimum of 10 minutes. Make sure you wash the oil out of your hair once you finish so that the pores are not clogged as this is not good for hair growth.
